PITA to launch its New office in Dubai Internet City

PITA is to celebrate the launching of its office at the DIC during Gitex Dubai 2002 which will take place on 13-17 October, 2002.

PITA-Gaza Programs – Update

 The Compressed Service Program was launched in cooperation with DAI/MAP June 2, 2002. Eight companies have registered for the program. The first and the second stages of activities were completed and the third stage is currently underway. The work will be conducted with all program participants by the end of July 2002. PITA is still anticipating other registrations in this program.

 Four ICT companies in Gaza have registered with PITA to participate in Gitex-Dubai-2002 as exhibitors. Four to five other companies expressed interest to participate as visitors in this important exhibition.

 

After 13 meetings were held with member and non member companies to increase awareness on PITA’s role and activities and after conducting PITA activities successfully, PITA received new membership applications from three local ICT companies, 2 of them already approved by the BoD.

The Israeli Occupation Forces occupy Palnet Office and Arrest the staff

At 2:30 after midnight on the 15th of July, the Israeli army, equipped with Tanks and other military vehicles, stormed the building that houses the headquarters of Palnet communications ltd as well as the Masrouji company (a leading pharmaceutical distributor). The Israeli solders occupied the building and arrested six of Palnet support staff members who were working the night shift that provide support services for you on 24 hours bases.

Immediately after occupying the building the soldiers shut off the electricity that caused disruption of the services of Palnet all over the country, the services include internet access, the Palestinian Securities exchange Market access services, Reuters Financial and News services, Email services, and all the web sites that Palnet hosts.

At 9:00 pm the same day five of the arrested employees were released with no charges, Raed Rashed , the support team coordinator is still in custody. Omar Rajab one of the staff members released suffered a broken foot in an accident while under arrest.

General Assembly Meeting postponed

 Due to the current situation of the continuous daily curfews imposed by the Israeli Occupation Forces; PITA is not able to schedule its general assembly meeting.

PITA hopes that members will understand that the board of directors and staff are working   hard to hold the meeting as soon as the conditions permit.

PITA conducted the necessary arrangements for a “Commencement Ceremony” for the professional training courses (Cisco, Linux and A+ ) in Gaza which was funded by UNDP.

 In cooperation with DAI/MAP, PITA will announce soon the Image Building, PR and Marketing program for the ICT companies in Gaza. More than 6 companies are expected to register for the program.
