Imports of Hi-Tech telecommunication hardware to the PNA areas

Palestinian Companies are facing great difficulties in importing networking or communication products such as computer related hardware (routers, modems, hubs and even network cabling), faxes, printers and photocopiers. The majority of those are imported from USA manufacturer such as; HP, 3Com, Cisco and others, as a mater of fact some are now bounded at the Israeli custom ports resulting in large loses to the importing companies. Israeli custom authorities explanation are “that they require authorization from the military authority (civil administration in West Bank and Gaza), some of PITA members have tried to obtain this authorization but with no success so far.

This was not the case before the beginning of this year 2002!

PITA members have reported this matter to the US consulate, Jerusalem and commercial section, Tel Aviv US Embassy but receive no answer back!

Palestinians are free to buy these equipment freely from the Israeli market which makes us suspect the motive behind this arbitrary move and which flies in the face of all trade agreements between or two nations, and view this as a deliberate interference in Palestinian trade with the world and US particular.
